About me

Although I enjoyed drawing as a child, this gave way to studying for a career in medicine. However, I came back to art as a form of relaxation and diversion from the busy and stressful life as a doctor.

I love working in detail and this has lent itself well to my favoured media of coloured and graphite pencils and scraperboard. My favourite subjects are animals and plants although every now and then I'll allow myself the freedom of landscapes.

I have previously exhibited with the SAA (Society of All Artists) and more recently with the UKCPS (United Kingdom Coloured Pencil Society) achieving Silver Signature status in 2022 for being selected for their annual national exhibition on five occasions. I regularly exhibit at local exhibitions and for 10 years was the secretary for the popular Gargrave Village Hall Summer Art Exhibition. On three occasions, most recently in 2019, my entry in the Leisure Painter section of the Patchings Open Art Competition has been highly commended and in 2022 was selected for exhibition.

Although I have had no formal education in art I have completed the correspondence courses with the Open College of Art in 'Drawing' and 'Drawing in Colour' and with the London Art College in 'Plants, Animals and Pet Portraits', 'Botanical Illustration' and 'Pet Portraits' for which I received the Diploma with merit.

Over the years I have had commissions for paintings, usually pet portraits, which have always been very well received. Having retired from medicine I am now released from the constraints of the day job so would be very happy to undertake more work.
